So you’ve probably heard by now that we have put together a show on Friday 3/2 called The Big Queer Rock Show. But as a straight person, you wonder if it’s really your thing. Here’s why you need to attend this event:
1. High School Was Tough
Whoever you are, someone probably picked on you, stereotyped you, called you names or beat the living piss out of you in high school. Kids are cruel. Now imagine being out as gay at 14. It takes a severe amount of courage to set yourself apart from the mainstream and young LGBT kids are doing it every day. The charity behind this event, BAGLY (The Boston Alliance of LGBT Youth) gives these young kids a support system. Everything changes when there’s someone to talk to who knows what it’s like.
2. LGBT Parties Are More Fun Than Straight Parties
Let’s face it. We all know white men can’t dance. But queer white men can. Even if you don’t own “dancing shoes”, just come for the energy in the room. Plus, the event is hosted by the lovely Carmen Diva.
3. There Is Still A Long Way To Go For Equality
Yes, Don’t Ask Don’t Tell has been repealed and Gay Marriage is recognized in Massachusetts. It’s still not recognized nationally or in 40+ other states. It’s a statistical fact that there are people in your life who are queer. Show them you care by standing with BAGLY.
4. The Raffle Prizes Are Off The Hook
A great amount of support from the community has given us the opportunity to offer up literally dozens of raffle prizes, including theater tickets, restaurant gift certificates, musical instruments, studio time, movie passes, clothing, private fitness lessons… and every dollar you spend on the raffle goes directly to BAGLY.
5. The Music Will Be Amazing
From Grygiel’s stripped down acoustic set, to Oilhead’s dance-rock assault, to the rock/electronic clusterf*ck of Cancer Killing Gemini, to the high-octane rock of Full Body Anchor, it’s a one-time music collection that can’t be missed.
